Dementia home "Loop "
Often you hear about dementia patients that wander around without any orientation and are exposed to a lot of dangers. The Loop-achitecture should prevent this and doesn't restrict the patients in their being and doesn't segregate them from society. The design has a privat and a public walkabout. Because of this concept there will be a healthy balance between private retreat and public exchange. The residents are safe however they have the possibility to be a part of the public life. The loops, which originate from the architecture, serve as a place to socialise with resitents and visitors. That's how refectory, eventroom and a library with included café bring old and young together. Due to the bright, natural light, that comes from the big windowsfacade, the orientation is eased. If you follow the aisle, you'll reach two doors, that lead to the planted rooftop. From there you have a great view of the garden. You can see the playground, skatepark, event plaza, and a sense park, which follow the same concept as the loops and also counteract the progression of the illness. The building is build for 30 residents. Each resident gets a flat, that includes a enough space for an overnight stay of relatives. and a private, safed balcony for fresh air and privacy. Therefore it also enables heavily ill people with dementia to observe all the activities outside from their own four walls. The concept should counteract the fear of dementia, the foreign and unknown and ensure a relaxed togetherness without exclusion.
